Statement from Jonathan Palmer.
-
"Henry had followed his heart from the time he first sat in a kart. He treated seriously the balance between motorsport and school, having just finished his A-Levels. The world beckoned and he was thriving on the freedom to concentrate on his motorsport.
"Despite bad luck in his motorsport, he had shown himself to be one with the possibilities of reaching the very top. Despite his young age he had shown maturity, technical understanding and speed. Most importantly he was a nice person and a loving son. He will be deeply missed."

"There will be investigations and perhaps things will be found that might be improved, but my feeling is that this was one of those accidents which would have happened come what may."
-
"Spanish driver Jaime Alguersuari plans to continue racing in the World Series by Renault championship despite his move to Formula 1, according to team boss Trevor Carlin."
-
Jarno Trulli: "For me at Silverstone I had an incredible qualifying and the race was terrible. Even though I scored points it was such a difficult race, really, really bad, far off from where I should have been, and this is driving us mad a little bit. We don't understand, we can see the area but we cannot understand why we have troubles.
"This is what is happening this year, and honestly not only to us. It is difficult to explain and difficult to talk about, we are investigating but it is not an easy issue to solve."
-
Mario Theissen: "[There's] two reasons [to continue pushing]: number one the aero regulations don't change so what you learn, and apparently we have a lot to learn because we are lagging behind, can be used for next year as well.
"Number two, the race weekend is the only weekend to test something out on the track so it would be silly to give up this opportunity and just work out on the track."
-
"Alguersuari is a rookie in the strictest sense of the word. He doesn’t know the F1 environment, has almost no experience of the cars and has to learn everything from scratch. It’s one of those situations where half of him will be saying, “I must take this opportunity, you never know if another will come along,” but the other half of him is saying, “The chances of failure are higher than the chances of success and my career may be over by the age of 20.”"
-
"I notice in John Surtees' own account of Henry's first race of the weekend at Brno on June 20th that he lost a wheel himself during a first corner melee. As his father put it: "Henry's rear wheel was detached, breaking the tether by the impact whilst he was still on the track, and he vividly recalls this rear wheel passing him at great speed, only to realise it was his."
"Clearly tethers do break – we see it occasionally in Formula One – but in the Williams-engineered Formula Two cars, it seems there could be an issue with this vital safety component. One Formula One observer was surprised to see wheels coming off. "For sure, in a junior category like that, it should be remarkably easy to achieve a tether that would hold a wheel on," he said."

A very thought-provoking article.
