OK, I'll make sure I don't get Formula One 99 then, as it looks like realism is not its strong point...

Thanks Collie. I was never a big PC gamer. Also, in my defence, Formula One Grand Prix didn't have an official license, although that wasn't what I said...

Over on the consoles the best game up to that point was probably Domark's F1 for the MegaDrive. But Super Monaco GP was more charming and is better for the nostalgia value. :D

"Developers Bizarre Creations had made the first 3D Formula 1-based video game and they got it near enough perfect first time round"

Eh? Don't be silly boy. Geoff Crammond got there first in 1992 for Microprose and 'Formula 1 Grand Prix' for the Amiga/PC. An amazing game at the time and the series still has a cult following now thanks to the sheer playability of the games and the various editors available that allow you to update the teams, drivers etc.

Grand Prix Manager 1 and 2 by MicroProse (the second was released at the end of 1996 based upon that season), F1 Manager by Eurosoft (also released in 1996 based upon that season and F1 World in 2000 (based on 1999) are all F1 team management sims for the PC. I don't know if any were ever made for the consoles. The Grand Prix Manager series was very realistic - in fact so realistic I never figured out how to play GPM2. F1 World was a bit simpler but samey. F1 Manager was more fun, more long-winded (you couldn't save the game during race weekends) and remains the only F1 game I've ever seen where cars routinely drove over each other with absolutely no consequences...
